Terrifying Bigfoot Encounter on Highway 14A: South Dakota Woman Comes Within 2 Feet of Sasquatch

Sasquatches are known for keeping their distance. This one didn’t get the memo.

On the night of June 23, a woman driving from Deadwood to Rapid City had what researchers are calling an “incredibly close encounter” with a 7-foot-tall hairy creature walking upright along the curves near Sturgis, South Dakota. According to her firsthand account, the being emerged from the darkness and passed within two feet of her vehicle—close enough to make out reddish-brown fur, broad shoulders, and legs that didn’t belong to anything else native to the Black Hills.

Let’s be honest: if you’ve got a Sasquatch towering over your car near a guardrail, you don’t need a second opinion. You need a can of Squatch Away!®—but we’ll come back to that.

“It Came Out of Nowhere”
The sighting occurred around 10 p.m. on Highway 14A, roughly 2.5 miles west of the Aurora Place turnoff. The woman described the creature as “easily clearing the top of my vehicle,” which puts it well above the 6.5-foot mark. She didn’t stop—because she’s sane—but she did return the next morning to gather the GPS coordinates and report her encounter to the Bigfoot Field Researchers Organization (BFRO).

To their credit, the BFRO took her report seriously, finding her account consistent and credible. They noted her ability to describe details like the creature’s fur color—dark brown with a reddish hue—as well as the anatomy of the chest and shoulders. This wasn’t an elk. And it definitely wasn’t a bear.

The woman told investigators, “It entered the roadway right as I was passing… I was too scared to stop or turn around.”

As far as we’re concerned, that’s not fear—that’s wisdom.

A Familiar Problem, a Proven Solution
South Dakota’s wide-open spaces, dense woodlands, and twisting mountain roads make it an ideal habitat for creatures that don’t want to be found. But as this latest encounter proves, not every Sasquatch is content to remain hidden. Sometimes they get a little too close.

That’s why it’s time to remind the public—and especially drivers along Highway 14A—that Squatch Away!® brand Sasquatch Repellent is your first line of defense against roadside cryptids. Formulated in 1621 and refined over four centuries, Squatch Away!® helps you stay safe while traveling through areas where Sasquatch activity is, statistically speaking, too common for comfort.

Sturgis, It’s Time to Get Serious
For a region best known for high-speed motorcycle rallies and breathtaking views, the idea of carrying Sasquatch repellent might seem strange—until one walks past your car. That’s why we’re calling on the good people of Sturgis, Deadwood, Rapid City, and beyond: encourage your local outfitters, convenience stores, and gas stations to start carrying Squatch Away!® brand Sasquatch Repellent.

If this driver had rolled her windows down, the situation could’ve been much worse. Fortunately, all she took home was a shaken sense of safety and one very close brush with the unexplained.

Don’t let this happen to you. Protect yourself. Protect your passengers. Protect South Dakota.

And next time you’re headed into the hills after dark—don’t forget the spray.
